4 smartmoney coin offers-- evaluate

OK in the February "Smart Money" magazine there are four diff coin vendor ads with come on offers. I will put them up here and ask you geniuses to evaluate them in terms of market prices. 2 silver offers and 2 golds. Today is 1/10/7 and I got it in the mail yesterday.

1- "2 for 1" buy the last 21 morgan silver dollar BU get a free 21-35 BU peace silver dollar" $39 total, plus $2 postage. Limit 2. code #34785. international coins and currency of VT. www.icoin.net 800 451 4463

2-- 1st amer reserve 07 sae 15.50 per coin (silver basis 14.02) limit 5 coins plus a free jeweler's loupe, plus unspecified s/h vault verification code asmos207 888 324 2646

3- new world rarities of NY ad shows 1869 $10 gold eagle .48 oz gold 1 eagle-- $309 2- 618 3- 927 5-1545 10- 3090. ask for dept US-17, call 877 coin- 534 (877 264-6534) limit 10 "cost based on spot" no basis specified. "add $8 insured delivery"

4- Omega collectibles of MN-- ad shows a 24 st gaudens double eagle-- offer is 1 for 965, 3 for 925 each, 5 for 895 each. $15 s/h. call 800 585 9240.

Now forgive me for not taking the time to answer this question for myself, but it took me ten minutes to type this thing in, and I thought it would be fun for y'all to evaluate....

QUESTION: DO ANY OF THESE ITEMS OFFER A DEAL COMPARED TO SIMIILAR ITEMS FOR SALE AT A VENDOR LIKE APMEX?

thanks

Re: 4 smartmoney coin offers-- evaluate

i vote for deal #3 except they are in NY and i would have to pay sales tax probably.

Re: 4 smartmoney coin offers-- evaluate

#3 isn't too bad, but personally I wouldn't do any of the others.

Limit 2. code #34785. international coins and currency of VT. www.icoin.net 800 451 4463 No, go for me. I can get you better deals. First BU means MS65or better. I doubt these coins would grade so high, probably MS62 or 63. Cost should be around $15-$17 for both.

2-- 1st amer reserve 07 sae 15.50 per coin (silver basis 14.02) limit 5 coins plus a free jeweler's loupe, plus unspecified s/h vault verification code asmos207 888 324 2646 Over priced. Get an earlier year, or wait a few months for the price to go down.

"add $8 insured delivery" Good deal, on these eagles. A few bucks over spot. I would assume these coins will be circulated ranging from fine to almost uncirculated, unless specified otherwise. It's a common date, but numismatic gold is always good in my book.

4- Omega collectibles of MN-- ad shows a 24 st gaudens double eagle-- offer is 1 for 965, 3 for 925 each, 5 for 895 each. $15 s/h. call 800 585 9240. Did the ad say what the grade of the coin was? I am assuming undgraded. Even PCGS' prices, which are overpriced, show $965 to be MS64. These are probably overpriced by far. Without a grade and mint mark, I would assume circulated condition, probably almost uncirculated and should cost between $750-$800 plus or minus.

Hope this helps, Anty Ep

I don't know about the others, but #2 is not very good. While I don't have any loupes, I have 2007 Eagles for $1.99 over spot, and the 2006s due to go on sale soon.

yeah that's the beaumont texas guy. his teasers usually stink. I think I'd rather have a good loupe that will do the trick than a piece of crap freebie.

jen you are hard to beat for silver bullion, thats for sure.

Re: 4 smartmoney coin offers-- evaluate

I think that $10 eagle offer is good too but it says based on spot but doesnt say what spot was for purpose of the ad. so, maybe that will be a bait and switch job. I am too busy to call today but I will.

Now for an interesting compare and contrast. I got the March "coins" magazine last night and here is the ad at the rear inside cover.

"universal coin and bullion" (of beaumont texas)" offers 1/10 oz 07 gae for $69 each, limit 3; and 1 oz 07 sae for $14 ea limit 5. not incl s/h. "2 free gifts" are, the same loupe, and also book "insiders guide to us coin values 2007" valut code UCMGS307 800 459 2646 gold basis was 615, silver 12.55.

So assuming $10 for S/H (I've ordered the intro offers from them before), that would be an additional $1.25 per coin, assuming you ordered the max. The new totals would be $70.25 for each 1/10 GAE and $15.25 for each 1 oz SAE. You can do much better elsewhere (although of course this isn't taking into account the free loupe and guide).

Re: 4 smartmoney coin offers-- evaluate

Has anyone used New World Rarities? I like their current prices on $5 and $10 Liberties ($175 and $345) - I wonder if their prices are updated, and if I can place an order online (without it being cancelled).

One thing that worries me - they deliver USPS? No insurance, no signature required?? Any experiences with them?

Edit: I will probably wait to talk to them on the phone, see if they mail w/ insurance or something, make sure the prices are updated, and see if anyone else has any experience with them.

the $10 liberties w/motto are in their worst condition of XF for $345

Well, I figure it won't be great, but XF should be something decent, easily recognizable. (They're not the prettiest design anyway. :D )

They don't appear to have pics or anything on their website.

You talked me out of it ... I'm afriad the coins will be in crappy condition, or not arrive at all, plus no one has posted any dealings with this merchant. I'm very wary of buying stuff I can't see in person.

The company is an ANA member, as well as an NGC authorized dealer. They'll probably do right by you.
